dc.description.abstractenIn this exploratory study, we present a pedagogical approach combining free play and narrating play for children aged 2.5 to 6 accompanied by their teacher, with the aim of supporting their language learning. Between September 2023 and April 2024, this approach was tested and evaluated by the first researcher, a teacher and a teaching assistant in a mixed preschool class of reception and first year children in French-speaking Belgium. The quality of interactions between the teacher and the children was also assessed using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS; Pianta, 2008), covering three main areas: Emotional Support, Group Organization and Learning Support. The positive results obtained with the CLASS tool and the semi-directed interviews with the teacher and the teaching assistant encourage us to test this approach with children in the second and third years of preschool and then in other preschools in French-speaking Belgium.en_US
